Can I fix my fish finder?
I have a Hummingbird Wide One Hundred fish finder mounted to the trolling motor of my boat. It turns on, but doesn’t register any depth or anything when I put the trolling motor in the water. I bought the boat in July and it has never worked. To make things worse, I snapped the wire that goes to the transducer. I just did a simple splice and used liquid electical tape on it (neoprene dip). It still doesn’t work. Any ideas on how to try to fix it?
Check the easy fixes first!
Make sure fuse is good and battery charged.
Check to see if you have a multiple transducer switch and it is in proper position for the transducer you are wanting to use. The switch looks like this:

The splice in your transducer cable will need to be extremely water tight. The slightest bit of moisture will cause a bad signal to head unit. Any splicing done should be with a soldered joint and heat shrink sleeve on each wire and a final sleeve long enough to cover both splices and at least 2″ cable on each end of splice. If this repair doesn’t fix the problem you will need a new transducer.

Opening the head unit for any type of repair is not advisable. The unit is hermetically sealed and if opened will allow moisture in causing worse problems.
